FAQs

Waxing

CAN I BE WAXED IF I’M TAKING RETIN A, RENOVA, OR ACCUTANE?

These medications increase the rate at which your skin exfoliates, leaving your skin susceptible to being pulled off along with the hair. Please let me know immediately if you are on any medications. Also be aware that chemical peels, laser, and microdermabrasion treatments can also affect skin integrity.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT FOR GETTING WAXED?

Waxing is for everyone—guy or gal, young or old! Speaking of young, if you’re under 18, please bring a parent or guardian on your first visit as I need their consent. Better yet, have them book an appointment, too!

WHAT KIND OF WAX DO YOU USE?

We use a hard wax that shrink wraps and hardens around the hair to lift from the skin, creating a less painful removal.

WHY SHOULD I WAX VS. SHAVING, ELECTROLYSIS, OR LASER?

If waxing is done consistently, hair grows back slower, finer, and sparser. Shaving, on the other hand, only cuts the hair off at the skin so the fullness and thickness of the hair stays the same over time. Shaving can also increase skin sensitivity and leads to ingrown hairs. Electrolysis and Laser hair removal don’t work for everyone, can be unpredictable, and cost prohibitive.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY WAXING SERVICE?

We recommend that you exfoliate the area several days prior to your appointment. Thoroughly clean the area keeping the skin moisturized (but not greasy).

HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR HAVE TO BE?

Hair needs to be at least ¼” to ½” for effective waxing. For most people this means waiting 2-4 weeks (minimum of 2 weeks) from the last time you shaved. The longer you wait, the better the results will be.

CAN I GET WAXED IF I’M ON MY PERIOD?

Yes. However, if you are concerned the increased hormone activity will make you more sensitive; avoid waxing 3 days before and the first 3 days of your cycle.

CAN I GET WAXED IF I’M PREGNANT?

Absolutely. I am used to making our pregnant clients feel as comfortable as possible during their waxing experience.

CAN I TAN BEFORE A WAX?

I recommend that you should avoid sun exposure for 48 hours prior to and after your wax.

HOW CAN I PREVENT INGROWN HAIRS?

Ingrown hairs are thin hairs that cannot push through the skin resulting in inflammation. The best way to prevent is to gently exfoliate 2-3 times a week. I recommend applying a mixture of coconut and tea tree oils daily to minimize the occurrence of ingrowns.

WHAT SHOULD I DO FOR AFTERCARE?

Your skin may be sensitive following your wax. Any red bumps or irritation should subside within a few hours. Avoid sun exposure/tanning, hot baths/hot tubs, heavy lotions, and exfoliation for 48 hours following your service.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET WAXED?

This varies depending on area of body being waxed and individual hair growth. However, on average, I recommend waxing every 4 weeks for best results.

Lash Lifts

DO YOU DO LASH EXTENSIONS?

No. However, if you're looking for a lower maintenece, more comfortable way of enhancing your lashes, I highly recommend considering a Lash Lift, which enhancing the curl of your own lashes at the base (sometimes with the help of a semi-permanent color and growth enhancement serum) to achieve a highly desirable look without the need for extensions. Feel free to reach out with questions and you can learn more in the details below.

WHAT TYPE OF LASH LIFT DO YOU DO?

Elleebana Keratin Lash Lift.

WHAT IS A LASH LIFT?

This lash lift procedure has revolutionized old, inadequate perming techniques. Using silicone pads instead of perm rods, this new technique can lift, straighten or curl, and lengthen your own natural lashes to create a brighter, fuller, wide-eyed look. No need for extensions and the associated aftercare––this will last you 6-8 weeks.

HOW SHOULD I PREP FOR TREATMENT?

Please come in free of any and all eye makeup. If you wear contacts, they must be removed.

CAN A LASH LIFT BE USED TO COMPLIMENT OTHER TREATMENTS?

Yes! A Lash Lift is enhanced when you use an eyelash growth product, or a semi-permanent mascara. While your lashes grow longer, our process controls straight or overly curly lashes by giving them a uniform lifted look.

IS A LASH LIFT THE SAME AS A LASH PERM?

No. The Lash Lift is a new, improved procedure, overcoming the “over-curled” look of its predecessor . While the chemical procedure is identical to a perm, the difference is in the results. By ditching the old-fashioned perm rollers which curled back the lashes to the extent of the ‘dolly look’, the silicone pads used for this new procedure lifts the lash from the root in either a straight or curled, upwards fashion that produces length and a bright-eyed enhanced look.

DOES THE LASH LIFT PROCESS HURT?

No. The process is totally painless. You will have your eyes closed for the entire treatment and although it may feel a little strange being unable to open your eyes for this time, it offers an excellent opportunity to relax!

IS A LASH LIFT SAFE?

Yes. Lashes are lifted onto our specially shaped lifting pads before products are applied.

WILL A LASH LIFT DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES?

No. Your lash procedure will be performed with the utmost care and proper technique. The product never touches the skin during the process. Redness around the eye may occur due to the product removal process (wiping the eyes with cotton rounds) but should disappear within a few minutes.

HOW LONG WILL A LASH LIFT TAKE?

An Elleebana Lash Lift takes approximately 30 minutes.

WILL I HAVE A REACTION TO THE LOTION USED IN THE TREATMENT?

While very few people react to the lotion, there is some chance of a reaction. This is why you can opt to have a patch test 24 hours beforehand. A patch test is quick and simple. It consists of us placing 2 drops of lotions behind the ear for 15 minutes, wiping it off, and waiting to see if any subsequent irritation occurs over the next 24 hours. This may include redness, itching, or inflammation.

I WEAR CONTACT LENSES. CAN I STILL GET A LASH LIFT?

Yes. However, we will ask you to remove them temporarily during the treatment.

CAN I WEAR MAKEUP AFTER MY LASH LIFT?

Yes but it is advised that you leave your lashes untouched for at least 24 hours after your treatment. You may find that there is no need for mascara anyway, but if you wish to make your lashes even fuller, a non-waterproof mascara is advised as the removal of waterproof mascaras can be harsh on the lashes and weaken the lift.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY LASHES?

Gently, using mild products. Always wait 24 hours to do this, straight after the procedure.

CAN I USE AN EYELASH CURLER?

No. There will be no need for an eyelash curler as this treatment gives a much better result than using a curler, But more importantly, using one may weaken and damage your lashes.
